Climate

Uganda lies in the great African plateau with an average altitude of 1200m (4000ft) above sea level broken by the Great Rift Valley to the western side. Elevated areas are the Rwenzori Mountains (5000m) with permanent snow cover and Mount Elgon (4300m). Temperatures averaging about 260C during the days and 160C at night, the hottest months are December to February with temperatures up 360C. The highlands can be considerably cooler at night. The rainy seasons are generally April and May and October to November.

 

Language;

English (official), Luganda and Swahili other Bantu and Nilo-Saharan languages.

People;

Uganda is a country composed of over 52 different tribes. These people are hospitable and welcoming and it is hard to pass by a Ugandan without saying hi to you.

Getting to Uganda;

Uganda’s main gateway is the Entebbe international airport. It is located 40km south of Kampala the capital.

Public transport;

Buses, taxis VIP vans and several touring trucks operated by individual operators are available for the tourists to use and reach their destinations. Motorcycles (boda bodas) as they are locally known can always be used for short distances and at the minimum speed possible. Costs for all these vary from time to time.

Driving in Uganda;

Driving in Uganda requires a driving license.

Money tips;

The unit of currency is the Ugandan shillings. The US dollar is traditionally the hard currency of preference but Euro and pound sterling are also widely accepted. Hard currency cash can be changed foe local currency at banks and bureau de change in all large towns but travelers’ cheques are not widely accepted outside Kampala. Local currency can be drawn against visa and other major credit cards at selected ATMS.

Health tips;

Travelers are advised to contact the Uganda representative in their countries or regions to determine whether vaccination is necessary before entry into Uganda. A yellow fever vaccination is usually required. Malaria is prevalent in Uganda and it is advisable to take anti-malarial and mosquito repellents.

Travelers are fully responsible for arranging your own health insurance. Uganda has several health facilities that provide quality health care services.
